GhEnToxLab is looking for a full-time junior assistant

GhenToxLab is looking for an enthusiastic young scientist to join our research team as a full-time junior assistant. We are looking for a candidate with a background and interest in at least one of the following research domains: ecotoxicology, ecology, molecular biology and genomics. In addition, an interest in teaching as well as research is essential. As academic assisting staff you assist in teaching activities and perform academic research in preparation of your doctoral dissertation.

 

What we are looking for:

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Bioscience engineering, Industrial sciences, biology, ecology, environmental science, environmental engineering, bio-informatics, or a similar or related diploma. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • You have a good knowledge of and strong interest in at least one of the following disciplines: ecology, ecotoxicology, molecular biology or genomics.
  • Strong interest in programming, bioinformatics or mathematical modeling is recommended.
  • You have a strong interest in both scientific research and academic education.
  • You have good academic results.
  • You have good teaching, communication and organization skills.
  • You have adequate knowledge of the Dutch language.

Your tasks:

  • At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of your doctoral dissertation in the field of marine ecotoxicology or applied marine ecology, preferably making use of recent genomics approaches and techniques.
  • You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, of in particular preparation, planning and supervision of the practical exercises related to ecology and ecotoxicology.
  • You will assist in the supervision of MSc theses, Ba projects and internships.
  • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.

What we offer you:

  • We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on the condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation.
  • Your appointment can start on 1 December 2016.
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3. More information about this can be found on the UGent website.
